cepa is a community of artists and people in Tlaxcala, Mexico living with HIV founded and directed by Beto Pérez in 2022. It is a self organized group that organize themselves around our diagnosis and reclaim the metaphors associated with it. We do this through informal and regular gatherings in a space near the local HIV clinic.
There, we make art together, hold book club meetings, watch films, and take turns as people living with HIV, teaching each other various skills. Sometimes they go off site for picnics, or what they call PIC NIC POZ.
“Chasing Metaphors” is our first public seminar for HIV positive people in Tlaxcala - For five months we will present workshops, conversations and activations aimed at finding in writing (in its broadest sense) a way to dissent from the prevailing academic and clinical hegemony in the history of AIDS.
We start from the premise that our friend and artist Daniel Cortez Abreu makes “who writes for us and about us?” and thus reclaim how we have learned to organize ourselves from the relationship we have with the virus, the body and health.
